Chalk & Cargo & Flipflops

chalk cliff with flowers
Continuing on the seaside theme, we have chalk & flint cliffs here which over time erode landwards leaving a knobbly beach.  And a lot more cargo traffic up the Thames along with more pleasure boats (but thankfully fewer noisy jet skis!) than in FL.  Still much 'fresher' weather-wise this side of the pond.
A rare cargo ship free moment

Keeping busy with the bowls and the crafting . . .
including with the local knit/crochet group.

I think this flipflop pillow turned out pretty cute if I do say so myself. Might have to make another.

And my balcony rhubarb (from friend AB) is doing very well considering having been neglected all winter (or shall we say happily undisturbed?) and in a fairly small pot.

Had the neighbours round last weekend (bank holiday/memorial day weekend) for wine and cheese, went down well even if seen to be a very American type thing to do.

Dogs & Bonfires not allowed on our FL beach (although allowed in the next town with a permit).  Here dogs allowed many places (as posted) and bonfires after 6 pm. Weird to see fire on the beach!

The town crier has been making his rounds too. And if you want to see more of Broadstairs, watch the 2018 movie Juliet, Naked (2018 romantic comedy film directed by Jesse Peretz based on Nick Hornby's novel of the same name, weirdly watched on our transatlantic sailing to the UK).
see orange glow left foreground - bonfire!

The Dickens festival - complete with Victoria Beach Party, parade and French guillotine! - happens in June and Folk Week in August. It has been chilly & windy but that hasn't stopped the beach and sea bathers!

Touring about, we saw these manual level cross gates, Heckington, Lincolnshire - on line from Sleaford to Boston - didn't know this still existed!!

and I did make some more flip flop pillows - 3 in all and one with (oops to the environment) micro-beads so nice and squishy.
