Beach Delights & Animal Freedom

A dreary wet-ish day last Thursday (16th), kept the beach walkers away and gave us a chance to stretch our legs during this coronavirus 'stay at home'/lock-down.

fox news; outer banks of NC
There are some real positives for nature - worldwide sea turtles thriving [enjoy this video of turtle hatchlings!]and sea shells piling upAnimals all over the world seem to know us humans are not about and our enjoying their freedom.

Here's what we saw on our beach walk.
Skate Egg Case  - Mermaid's Purse with hooks to anchor
note the rain's 'pock marks' in the sand
Whelk Egg Case - a very nice one!
Fisherman's net buoy
washed up

Skimmers - I am hoping a new colony is forming!
pen shell

Sponge - love the shape!

unusually a dead pelican!

Good to see our tax dollars still at work - local sheriff patrol much appreciated on the beach and in the water as well as on our streets.

On the domestic front, my 'regrow your lettuce' experiment (29 March post) has had mixed results,

but at least I finished my first (and only?!?) pine needle basket - it is a slow process!

Plus I made a few masks for the homeless in response to an urgent call from the county emergency operations center to our church.

  1. Praise! My small church had less than 1 week to respond to the call for 100 homemade masks for the homeless. The call came from the county emergency operations center. We made 234!
